Ambleside succumbed to the accursed Tesco a few years ago when they took over what used to be the Post Office. It's a typical Tesco local but with a licence to print money from tourists. It's invariably heaving but service at the tills is reasonably swift. It's the last port in a storm but the footfall here means it will always be popular. Fortunately Spar and the Coop, which have been in situ for years, continue to trade.
